My father wound and set his life
exactly-- like a railroader’s watch.
His every train of thought arrived
on schedule. Caution cleared the tracks.
God save him for the pains he took
to bring us safe. But there are track-
less lines, untraveled, where no clocks run,
stations and destinations unknown.
