There is laughter at the heart of things.
Whoever that man who has no mind may be,
he jars the hymns with a laugh that brings
hell itself into our solemn liturgy.
There is laughter at the heart of things.
Does he mock our reverence.  Or does God  remind
that all our piety is chaff. And in a trice
we may become mindless, may be struck blind.
There can be no salvation until we realize
there is laughter at the heart of things.
